The Brooks Clinic is pleased to announce the launch of a city-wide school uniform drive aimed at assisting displaced and underprivileged students within the Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCPS) Elementary Division. The drive will collect new and gently used uniform clothing to ensure that all students have access to appropriate school attire, fostering a sense of pride and equality among peers.

Recent reports indicate a growing number of homeless students within the Oklahoma City area, underscoring the critical need for community support. According to Mr. Bryan Coleman with Oklahoma City Public Schools, the number of homeless students increased to more than 2500 last year – and that number has increased to more than 3000 for the coming school year. These students face significant challenges in accessing basic necessities, including proper school uniforms, which are essential for their academic success and social well-being.

“We are deeply committed to supporting our community, particularly those students who are facing hardships,” said Rodney Miller, CEO of The Brooks Clinic. “By organizing this uniform drive, we aim to alleviate some of the burdens these students and their families experience, ensuring that they can attend school with dignity and focus on their education.”

The Brooks Clinic invites community members to participate in this initiative by donating new or gently used school uniform items such as shirts, pants, skirts, and shoes. Donation drop-off locations will be available at all five metro Brooks Clinic locations throughout Oklahoma City. Additionally, the Oklahoma City Public Schools Student Services office, located at 1701 Exchange Avenue, will serve as a drop-off point.

“We encourage everyone in our community to join us in making a difference,” said Rodney Miller. “Your contributions will directly impact the lives of students in need, helping to create a more inclusive and supportive educational environment. We know the future community leaders, doctors, attorneys and business people are sitting in the classrooms today. Helping to put these kids in a productive learning environment will pay dividends for years to come. It’s a small gesture, but we hope if they feel better about themselves, they will learn to become the best version of themselves.”

The uniform drive has started and will run through the end of August 2024 to ensure that they clothing pantry is filled with the necessary sizes.
