In 2025 and 2026, The Brooks Clinic has been a proud partner of Stamp Out Hunger with the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma participating with the United States Postal Service to collect canned foods for needy Oklahomans. It was a eye opening experience to know that in just a few hours, our team could work together for prep and sort food to be boxed for thousands of recipients. In this one single day, Stamp Out Hunger collects more than 550,000 pounds of food which will serve more than 650,000 meals to Oklahomans.
The team worked together at the post office assigned to them, from early morning until late afternoon to receive thousands of cans of food from all over the area. The food was collected by postal service employees as they delivered mail. Every few minutes a truck would pull up and unload heavy sacks of food donated by households along the mail delivery pathway. Those items included much needed baby food, fruit juices and canned goods that will be shared all over the state of Oklahoma. In between deliveries, the team got to play games and share laughs – things that don’t happen during the normal work day while we serve patients.
Since 1980, the Regional Food Bank has led the fight against hunger in central and western Oklahoma. The Regional Food Bank is the state’s largest domestic hunger-relief 501(c)(3) nonprofit that distributes food through a network of community-based partners and schools. The majority of people served are chronically hungry children, seniors living on fixed incomes and hardworking families struggling to make ends meet. The Regional Food Bank is a member of Feeding America, the nation’s network of more than 200 food banks.
Not only was the day a great experience to help those in need, it game our volunteer team the time to relax, and work together in a new way. It’s great teamwork!
